Do it Yourself Manicure - Pedicure

This can be a fun and inexpensive way for you and your bridal party of girls to have beautiful nails for your pre-wedding events, and of course, your wedding day.

You will need the following items:
• 1 package of cotton balls or pads
• 1 bottle of fingernail polish remover
• emery boards
• nail trimmer
• cuticle remover
• finger/toe separators
• fingernail polish (clear, frosts, and pastel colors are the most popular for weddings)
• paper towels

Wash your hands and fingernails thoroughly; use a scrub brush underneath your nails if necessary.

Use cotton balls/pads to remove old nail polish. I prefer the flat cotton pads, round or square, as they rarely leave any fibers on your nails or fingers, unlike cotton balls. Next, use an emery board on the ends of your nails to file down rough nail surfaces and shape your nails.

A fingernail trimmer, or clippers, can be used to reshape or shorten your nails; follow with an emery board to smooth any uneven surface.

Use your cuticle remover to remove or push the cuticle down. Your cuticle is the soft skin that forms at the bottom of your fingernail at the place where your fingernail cartilage and your skin meet.

You are now ready to paint your nails. For a pedicure, insert the separators between your toes, or you can use cotton balls. If you have ridges in your nails, you may want to consider using the ridge filler prior to painting your nails. This comes in a bottle and you apply the filler to your nails just as you would polish. The instructions on the ridge filler will tell you how long you must wait before applying polish to your nails. Starting at the base of the nail and applying polish in an upward motion helps you evenly coat your nail. Wait until your nails are completely dry before applying a second coat of polish. Follow up with a top coat to protect your color.

(There is a variety of quick drying products on the market that you may want to consider, or even French Nail kits.)

Q-Tips or paper towels can be used for polish mistakes.

Follow the directions on all products and seek medical attention if you experience any abnormal swelling, etc.
